Louis C. Tiffany (1848-1933), son of the founder of the famous Tiffany & Co. jewelers and a renowned artist and painter in his own right, worked in many media from water color to interior decoration. He is best known for the wares of his businesses, principally Tiffany Studios (c. 1900 - c. 1934), which produced stained glass lamps and windows, iridescent blown glass objects, decorative metalware, plus a wide variety of lesser-known items from pottery to fabrics. His peers and competitors in the lamp and metalware business included Handel, Pairpoint, Duffner & Kimberly, and Miller & Jefferson, all in the US; several of these manufacturers also produced some windows and blown glass, and a number of stained glass window studios and artists - most notably the painter John LaFarge - produced similar windows. Other producers of high quality iridescent and decorative glassware included the american firms Steuben (Aurene), Quezal (also Quezel), Durand, Union (Kew Blas); and in europe Loetz (properly Lötz, sometimes Lotz) and Galle (properly Gallé or Galle'). Authentic antiques by Tiffany and other fine manufacturers are available through Carl Heck Decorative Arts

Background of Carl Heck and Carl Heck Decorative Arts

Carl Heck acquired his first stained glass windows in 1968.  In 1972 he opened his shop in Aspen, Colorado, and many may know Carl Heck from the 12 years he was open to the public.  During this time his inventory grew to include many fine authentic Tiffany windows, Tiffany lamps, and Tiffany blown glass - actual items executed under the supervision of Louis C. Tiffany at Tiffany Studios or Tiffany Furnaces, and in many cases designed by L. C. Tiffany himself.  Other lighting represented included Handel lamps (Philip Handel) in both reverse painted and stained glass, and lamps by Pairpoint and Duffner & Kimberly.  Irridescent art glass pieces included Steuben Glass (Frederick Carder) from the US, and work by former Tiffany craftsmen at Quezal (sometimes misspelled Quezel) and Durand.  European art glass included irridescent, carved, and silver overlay work by firms such as Galle' (french, actually Gallé) and Loetz (austrian/bohemian, correctly spelled Lötz, though their own export marks used the anglicized spelling).  For the last decade and a half, Carl Heck has been dedicated to serving private clients in search of extraordinary pieces.  Carl Heck has been the Tiffany advisor to Schroeder's price guide since 1990, and to Antique Trader since 1998.  In his years in the business, Carl Heck has discovered, purchased, and sold many notable Tiffany windows and Tiffany lamps, including several windows that set price records when sold, plus windows and other authentic Tiffany goods that have been loaned for major exhibitions.

Authentic collector and museum quality antique Tiffany lamps, windows, and decorative goods for sale; as well as works of other period lamp, window and glass studios and artists.
